
Bihta: The five-day CBSE Zonal Chess Championship, held at Mount Litera Zee School, Jinpura, Bihta, concluded on Sunday. The event, which began on 20 August, saw participation from over a thousand players representing Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand, showcasing their talent and strategic skills in the game of chess.
The competition featured matches in various categories — Under-11, Under-14, Under-17, and Under-19 (both boys and girls). The matches were intense and highly competitive.
According to school authorities, it was for the first time that Bihar hosted such a large-scale chess tournament under the CBSE banner. Players from schools such as Sunbeam Lahartara and Sunbeam Suncity, Varanasi, won gold medals in different categories.
In the Under-11 girls’ category, Palak Saurabh from Mount Litera Zee School, Bihta, secured the gold medal, while DPS Ranchi clinched gold in another category with Siddh Singh’s outstanding performance.
Over the five days, numerous rounds of challenging matches were played. The event concluded on Sunday with an impressive prize distribution ceremony. Winners received medals and trophies.
School Director Kundan Kumar expressed happiness at the successful organisation of the championship, calling it a proud moment for the school and the state. He said, “Hosting a CBSE-level event is an honour for us. Mount Litera Zee School, Bihta, was chosen for this championship because of its excellent facilities and management.”
He further added that the school prioritises the holistic development of its students, with sports playing a crucial role in building discipline, teamwork, and leadership skills. He also extended heartfelt thanks to the CBSE management for entrusting the school with this major event.
